292 new homes commenced in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown in May – Cllr. Eoin O’Driscoll
Housing figures released today show that construction commenced on 292 new homes in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown during May, according to Cllr. Eoin O’Driscoll.
The figures also show that construction has begun on 1,216 new homes in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown over the twelve months to May 2026.
Cllr. O’Driscoll said:
“Every new home represents an opportunity for someone to put down roots in our community. Whether it’s a young person buying their first home, a couple starting a family, or someone moving closer to family and friends, these homes will give more people the opportunity to become part of our community and build their future here in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown .
“Housing is about much more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating neighbourhoods, supporting local schools and businesses, and giving people the chance to become part of our community. That’s why it’s encouraging to see 292 new homes commenced across our community during May.
“These figures are also a reminder that progress is being made in increasing housing supply locally and helping more people find a place to call home.”
Nationally, Commencement Notices were lodged for 2,099 new homes in May, up 103% on the 1,035 notices received in May last year.
From January to May this year, Commencement Notices were lodged for 13,120 new homes nationally, an increase of 161% on the 5,033 notices received during the same period in 2025.
Cllr. O’Driscoll added:
“While we still have a long way to go to meet housing demand, these figures show real progress. More homes being built means more opportunities for people to live in the communities they want to be part of, close to family, friends and local services.
“We need to continue building on this momentum so that more people can put down roots locally, build a life in our community, and access a home that meets their needs.”
